Biostimulants are a category of treatments designed to activate the skin’s own regenerative biology. Rather than replacing what’s been lost, they work by signaling the body’s cells — primarily fibroblasts — to produce more of their own natural collagen, elastin, and other structural proteins. The result is a gradual, natural-looking improvement that develops over weeks to months.  Results can last considerably longer than traditional fillers.

How They Differ from Fillers

Our collagen production slows with age leading to thinning of the dermis, loss of structural integrity, and the textural changes that give rise to fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss. HA fillers address this by replacing lost volume — a valuable tool, but one that doesn’t change the underlying biology. Biostimulants take a different approach: they create an inflammatory or chemical response in the tissue that recruits fibroblasts and triggers a wound-healing-like cascade that leads to genuine new collagen production. This process is called neocollagenesis.

The Main Biostimulants We Use

Sculptra (Poly-L-Lactic Acid / PLLA). A biodegradable polymer injected as a dilute suspension into the deep dermis. It provokes a controlled inflammatory response that stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen. Sculptra treats volume loss and laxity in the cheeks, temples, and jawline, and can also address laxity on the body. We typically recommend 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart.  Results gradually develop over 3–6 months and last 2 years or longer.

Radiesse (Calcium Hydroxylapatite / CaHA). Calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier. The gel provides immediate volume while the microspheres act as a scaffold for ongoing collagen stimulation. Excellent for restoring volume in the cheeks, nasolabial folds, and jawline. Radiesse can also be injected as a dilute suspension.  It is excellent for rejuvenating the face, neck, hands, arms, and body.  Results build over 3–4 months and last 2 years or more.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). Concentrated platelets from a simple blood draw, packed with growth factors — including PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF, and EGF — that stimulate stem cells and fibroblasts to produce collagen, build new blood vessels, and regenerate tissue. They are often applied topically after procedures or injected directly into the skin.

Good Fit For

Biostimulants are well-suited for patients in their 30s through 60s dealing with mild to moderate laxity and volume loss — particularly those who want a gradual, natural improvement rather than an immediate dramatic change. They’re also an excellent choice for patients interested in prejuvenation — getting ahead of aging.

The Bigger Picture

Biostimulants represent a move away from masking aging with synthetic products and toward genuinely regenerating the tissue. They sit at the intersection of science, longevity medicine, and natural aesthetics.
